How to Apply for an Internship

The State of South Dakota Intern Program requires each eligible applicant (see "Program Information" for eligibility requirements) to complete the State of South Dakota Intern Application form to be considered for an internship. The application is a one-page application; different from the State of South Dakota Employment Application and the State of South Dakota Seasonal Application.

Where do I find the intern application?
The State of South Dakota Intern Application is available at most South Dakota Career Centers, South Dakota college and university career and placement offices, and at the South Dakota Bureau of Personnel. You may also find the intern application online (see below), by either downloading or submitting one online. If you need to request a hard copy, please call the Bureau of Personnel at 605-773-3148 or email bopinfo@state.sd.us .

What do I need to know before filling out the intern application?

To apply for more than one internship, you must complete and submit a separate application for each position. Applications may be mailed all together in one envelope if desired.
Each intern application must include the position's title and specific requisition number. Applications with incorrect titles or requisition numbers will be returned.
A resume is required with each intern application submitted. Applications submitted without a resume will be returned.
Mailed intern applications must be postmarked within 24 hours after the application deadline to be accepted. Hand-delivered applications must be in to the Bureau of Personnel no later than 5 p.m. (Central Time) on the day indicated as the application deadline. The application deadline is indicated on each position description.
