The PMAB was created to provide advice and assistance to the Governor in administering the personnel management functions of the Executive Branch.
The PMAB presents a report to the Governor which summarizes the Board's activities and provides recommendations for improvements to the personnel management system. In previous years, recommendations by the PMAB have lead to significant changes in the personnel system.
The PMAB is made up of 13 state employees from all branches of state government and from all across South Dakota. These members represent all state employees and give you a voice in discussing personnel issues.
Six of the 13 members are elected. Five are Executive Branch employees and one is a Board of Regents employee. Elections are held every two years. Six members are appointed: three employees from the Executive Branch, one employee from a Constitutional Office, one employee from the Unified Judicial System, and one employee from the Legislative Branch. The 13th member is the Commissioner of the Bureau of Personnel. Appointed members serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority.
Your input to the board does make a difference. If you have concerns or suggestions regarding personnel issues, please email the PMAB. Please note that the PMAB does not address individual personnel issues which should be directed to your supervisor or, if regarding a benefit, to the appropriate office.
